Wenonah Art Classes Win Poster Contest

Congratulations to Wenonah’s 1st and 2nd grade art classes for winning the MPS poster contest for American Indian Awareness & Family Involvement Week! Ms. Krowez taught students that Minneapolis and the surrounding area is in Dakhóta Makhóčhe, the Dakota Homeland. Students looked at James Autio's Beshwaji'awesiinh painting of Anishinaabe doodem, or clan symbol animals. We learned that these animals represent each clan and their important role in their community. We connected how all students at Wenonah are important to our community. Students represented that by drawing an animal they feel connected to. Then Rms 107, 109, and 114 worked collaboratively to arrange screen captures of our community's artwork in a Jamboard poster.
