Wenonah Art Classes Win Poster Contest

Congratulations to Wenonah’s 1st and 2nd grade art classes for winning the MPS poster contest for American Indian Awareness & Family Involvement Week! Ms. Krowez taught students that Minneapolis and the surrounding area is in Dakhóta Makhóčhe, the Dakota Homeland. Students looked at James Autio's Beshwaji'awesiinh painting of Anishinaabe doodem, or clan symbol animals. We learned that these animals represent each clan and their important role in their community. We connected how all students at Wenonah are important to our community. Students represented that by drawing an animal they feel connected to. Then Rms 107, 109, and 114 worked collaboratively to arrange screen captures of our community's artwork in a Jamboard poster.

New Distance Learning Help for Wenonah Families - "Check & Connect"

We have launched a new resource for Wenonah students and families to get support during the school day. You can visit our Check & Connect virtual classroom anytime Mon-Fri 10am-3pm to talk live with Wenonah staff. That means anytime during the asynchronous parts of our school day you or your student can connect instantly to someone who is live and ready to help via Google Meet. In addition, you or your student can visit this room at specific times to talk live with Principal Wright or our Social Worker Jennifer Frisbie. And if your student just needs a little break, they can visit the room to access calming activities, read-alouds, and movement breaks. (Be sure you are logged in with an MPS email address to make it easier to access the live Google Meet calls.)

We want to hear how Distance Learning is going for your family! Please leave us a comment about what is going well and what could be better. Distance Learning is so new for all of us and we will continually adapt based on student and family experiences.

Wenonah Staff Video Directory

Check out our new staff Video Directory! Each of our staff members have made a short video to say hello and explain their role at Wenonah. We want you to have a way to get to know of all us even though you can't see us in the school hallways right now.
