My name is Jean Doroff and I am very excited to be your child's teacher this year.  I received my K-6 elementary education degree from the University of MN in 1991 and added my masters from St. Catherines University a few years later.  I have taught at Wilder Contemporary, Powderhorn, and Andersen in first, second, and fifth grades.  This is my 29th year of teaching in Minneapolis and my first year at Wenonah.

I grew up in Richfield right off the crosstown and Portland avenue.  Now I live in Burnsville with my husband Jay, two daughters, Katie and Emily, and our two dogs, Charlie and Bella.  For fun, we love to do things together, like taking our dogs for a walk, cheering on the MN Wild, and traveling.

During first grade your child will work hard to improve his/her skills in reading, writing, and math.  They will also learn how to explore, question, figure things out, and explain their thinking.  I hope to make your child's learning experience a fun and motivating one.  Here are some ways you can help at home:

* celebrate all of your child's successes, even the little ones

* read to and with your child every day

* attend school family events with your child, especially parent-teacher conferences
