AVID 6/7/8

AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination. The AVID program is in its second year at Keewaydin school.  This year we are excited to add another section of AVID- AVID 8.

The goal of AVID is to prepare students for honors classes in High School, and eventually, to be successful in college. In AVID, we focus on writing, inquiry, collaboration, reading, and organization. For Minneapolis, AVID's curriculum is aligned with the Gifted & Talented Curriculum. We also have four college educated tutors who work with students in small groups of a 1:6 ratio every Monday and Wednesday. In these small groups, called Tutorials, students present questions they have  from other core classes, and work together to solve the problem. On Fridays, we engage in more social activities such as academic games, socratic seminars, presenations/public speaking, and field trips. AVID is a year long class that meets every day for 55 minutes. Students who are in AVID as sixth graders will have the opportunity to loop in AVID for all three years at Keewaydin.
