Welcome to Room 104!

My name is Kate Johnson and my students call me Ms. J. I'm thrilled to be teaching kindergarten at Wenonah. I believe school should be hands-on and meaningful for each student. My goal is to help students develop a love of learning and a curious mind. I will do this by creating opportunities for your child to develop skills in the traditional school subjects, as well as in the personal skills of independence, creative expression, higher level thinking, social skills and working to their full potential. I use songs, movement, games and art in the classroom to engage students and make it possible for all kinds of learners to thrive.

I have been teaching in Minneapolis since 2014 when I completed my student teaching in kindergarten at Dowling Elementary School. I had the opportunity to be a long-call substitute teacher for several months at Wenonah in the winter and spring of 2015 and joined the kindergarten team as a full-time teacher for the 2015-2016 school year. Before teaching, I spent 12 years working in nonprofit communications and fund-raising. I earned my Minnesota teaching license at Augsburg College where I am close to completing the Master of Arts in Education program. I live with my husband and two school-aged children in Minneapolis. I love our city and make it priority to enjoy the beautiful lakes and parks as often as possible.
