PHONEMIC AWARENESS:

To recognize and name the letters of the alphabet.

To use their knowledge of sounds and letters to write words phonetically.

To identify rhyming words.

Recognize the initial sounds/letters of words.

Segment the onset and rime in single syllable words.

Blend separately spoken phonemes to form meaningful words.

To recognize how many letters are in words.

To recognize how many words are in sentences.

 

VOCABULARY EXPANSION:

To use knowledge of letter sounds to figure out simple CVC words (consonant-vowel-consonant).

To read at least 50 high frequency words - that are recognized by "sight".

To read color words.

To read the number words from 0-10.

UNDERSTAND CONCEPTS OF PRINT:

1. Hold the book right side up and point to the title.

2. Understand the concepts of author/illustrator.

3. Identify the beginning of a sentence.

4. Use left to right sweep.

5. Read the text by tracking with right index finger.

 

COMPREHENSION SKILLS:

To listen to and explain their understanding of the text.

Identify main character.

Retell the story using their own words.

Respond to questions about the books content.

Make predictions about the story based on illustrations or portions of the story that have been read.

Give your reaction to the story - Why do you feel that way?

To identify the sequence of events.

 

LITERATURE:

To listen to a variety of genre:  Songs, poetry, fiction, nonfiction, folk tales, biographical.

Look at books for personal enjoyment.

Read books for personal enjoyment.

 

WRITING:

To learn how to print the lower case and upper case letters.

To learn how to print first name.

Write word family lists.

Write high-frequency word lists.

To learn the concepts of capitalization,  punctuation, and spacing between words.

To practice writing simple sentences with Mrs. Rossow's help.

Write to record and state information.
