HOMEWORK

Homework will start slowly to get the students back into the swing of things. I am asking your child to read 15 min. 5 nights a week. My own children read during the week and take a break on the weekend. You can do whatever works well for your family.

I will send a monthly calendar beginning in September. Students and parents can keep track of the min. read on this calendar and turn it in to me at the end of the month signed by a parent or guardian. I find this is an easy way to keep track and is a great way to begin helping your child learn to be responsible for reading and writing down the number of minutes read. It also help students learn to read a calendar and understand how it works which is something they will need to learn this year. Later in October I will send a weekly homework packet. This homework is review of concepts covered in school during the past month.

HOMEWORK

Students are required to do weekly reading. Please keep track on the monthly reading log I send home and sign and turn that in at the end of each month.

We expect 100 min. weekly. You and your child can decide how to accomplish this goal. It is important because our school continues to struggle with reading. I believe a lot of this problem is because many students do not read at home. Try to develop a love of books in your home. Make sure your child sees you reading as well. Read aloud and also make time to listen to your child read.

I will also send a weekly packet which reviews concepts we have worked on during the last few weeks. That is sent on Wednesdays and is due the following Wednesday.
